Dr. Kristine Eng, OD

Dr. Kristine M. Eng graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1998, but she has been working in the Orinda office since she was in junior high school. She went to school in Orinda, and then went on to undergraduate school at UC Davis. Dr Eng is TPA Certified, which allows her to treat eye diseases with oral and topical medications, and in January 2001, she took the Glaucoma Certification Course.

Dr. Eng is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the American Public Health Association-Vision Care Section, Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and Charter member of Women of Vision. She currently serves as a member of the American Optometric Association Membership Committee, Ambassador for the American Academy of Optometry, and Mentorship Coordinator for Women of Vision. She is Past-President of the Bay Area Optometric Council, Past-President of the Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society and Membership Chair for the California Optometric Association.

In 1999 she was named the Alameda /Contra Costa Country Optometric Society's Young Optometrist of the year. In 2005 she was named the American Optometric Association's Young Optometrist of the year and in 2006 she was nationally recognized as one of Vision Monday’s 50 Most Influential Women in Optometry.

Her specialties include bifocal and specialty contact lenses, laser surgery co-management, and children's vision.

Dr. Eng lives in Orinda with her husband Michael T. Smith, their son, Pierson and daughter, Anarose. She has enjoyed being active in the Lamorinda Moms Club and was co-chair of the LMC Holiday Outreach Program. In her free time, she enjoys golfing, scuba diving, traveling, and exploring the Bay Area with her family.


Dr. Kelly Shintani, OD

Dr. Kelly Shintani graduated with honors from the U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry in 2000 and has practiced optometry in the Bay Area or the past six years and specializes in primary care and ocular disease. While in Optometry school, Dr. Shintani participated in many vision screenings through the Volunteer Optometric Services for humanity and Help the World See organizations in developing countries such as China, Belize, Mexico, and Peru. Immediately following optometry school, she completed advanced training in ocular disease through an intense one-year residency at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia.

In addition to being on the Clinical Faculty at the U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry, she is active as Immediate Past President for the Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society, the largest in the state. She has enjoyed coordinating the vision screenings at the annual Sakura Kai Health Fair in El Cerrito and the Tri-Valley Expand Your Horizons conference in San Ramon. Dr. Shintani also enjoys serving on both the Scholarship and Civil Rights committees for the Berkeley Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League and continues to hold positions on the California Vision Foundation committee (California Optometric Association's charitable arm) and the Advisory Committee for the President's Council of the California Optometric Association. In the recent past, she has been an active member of the Berkeley Kiwanis as well as the Berkeley Breakfast Club.

For her leadership, service, and dedication to the professional community, she was named California's Young Optometrist of the Year (2004) and Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society's Young Optometrist of the Year (2003).

In addition to the top notch individualized care she offers her patients, her strong commitment to community service and professional leadership is a superb addition to the Orinda Optometry Group and the local community.


Dr. Weylin Eng, OD

Dr Weylin G. Eng graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1965. Dr. Eng's special interests involve solving vision problems associated with Video Display Terminals and the wearing of contact lenses in aviation. He served 30 years in the US Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Dr. Eng has lectured and published extensively, including professional journals, the Reader's Digest, and Encyclopedia Brittanica. Dr. Eng is an Associate Clinical Professional at UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs, and has served as Director of Clinics.

Dr. Eng's community involvement includes the Rotary Club, Mason's Club, and other professional organizations such as the American Optometric Association, American Public Health Association, and the Alameda/Contra Costa County Optometric Association. In 1975, he was named the young optometrist of the year for both the Alameda/Contra Costa County Optometric Society and the California Optometric Association.

Dr. Weylin Eng is married to Roselyn , and have four daughters, Kristine, Tiffany, Shannon, and Aimee. All four daughters are graduates of Miramonte High School in Orinda and are all active in the community as well. Dr. Eng's hobbies include clinical research with aviation medicine, mounted patrol, and collecting asian artifacts.


Nancy Leung, Optician

Nancy Leung, ABOC, NCLE has over 25 years of optical experience. She is a wonderful addition to our team and can expertly fit and advise any prescription. In addition, she really maximizes your insurance benefits to give you the most for your dollars. Nancy worked at the UC Berkeley Meredith Morgan Eye Center before joining Orinda Optometry. She lives in Marin and enjoys running, cooking and music.


Yadira Banuelos

Orinda Optometry Group is happy to welcome back Yadira after her maternity leave. Yadira is our Clinic Team Leader, and can be seen pre-testing patients, performing contact lens trainings, and dispensing and adjusting glasses. Yadira has four years of experience in the optical field, and possesses a contagious enthusiasm and passion for her profession. Yadira is bilingual in English and Spanish. Yadira currently lives in Milpitas with her husband and young son,


Cristen Adams

Cristen is our Clinic Tech, and is a 2009 graduate of Penn State. Cristen is planning on attending the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Cristen loves children and living the "green" lifestyle.


Esther Slaman

Esther has been with our practice for a few years now, beginning as an intern. Esther performs various duties to help efficiency throughout the office, and also may pre-test or train in contact lens usage. Esther is currently attending UC Berkeley and lives in Orinda.
